Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc. together with actor, comedian and musician Jim Belushi have just launched an educational campaign to raise awareness about gout as well as a severe form of it that is known as refractory chronic gout (RCG). Jim Belushi has been suffering from gout himself and finds it an extremely serious condition that is affecting around 8 million people just in the United States.
Together with Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (company that has specialized on developing and commercializing KRYSTEXXA® (pegloticase) for the treatment of chronic gout in adult patients refractory to conventional therapy) they launched the campaign called "Check Out Your Gout" from Belushi's hometown Chicago. For this purpose they have also launched an educational website CheckOutYourGout.com and during the campaign they will be featuring a lot of video material.
Belushi says that "When I first developed gout, I didn't want to do anything about it. I thought I could tough it out; but when the pain became too unbearable for me to perform on stage, I saw a rheumatologist and got my gout under control." So now he's here to raise awareness about the condition to make the lives of other people suffering from it better as well.
